Rotoscoping: TIE Fighter - short film

Most of the time I am only interested in drawn animation rather then 3D animation. However, I do see and appreciate the effects 3D animation can provide along with drawn animation, such as rotoscoping.

One animation I have seen that shows this technique is a video called 'TIE Fighter - short film', animated by Paul Johnson, which shows an animated short of a Star Wars themed battle where we follow characters from the Empire's side. The amount of detail done to rotoscope the 3D models used is incredibly detailed considering all the complex movements done. As described in the description "crazy detail and shading of classic 80s anime that's all but vanished from Japan nowadays". It gives the drawn animation more depth and realism to the movements done, gives you a sense of the surroundings and sometimes makes me think it's 3D at times. The animation is impressive considering it is all drawn animated by Paul Johnson.
