Paprika

Paprika is a Japanese animated film by Satoshi Kon with astonishing amounts of animation and shows great imagination to the concept of dreams. It does well to animate a world that feels real. This anime heavily inspired the film Inception which got it's concept of a device which can connect people through their dreams from Paprika. Paprika even had a 'dream within a dream' moment which Inception developed on as its concept.

There are even many scenes in Inception that have been taken from Paprika:

1. Both have a shattering scene
(with Paprika looking more believable whereas the Inception one has questionable acting).

2. Both have an elevator screen where a main male character in each film doesn't want to go to a specific floor.

3. Both have a bizarre hallway scene.

Between the two films I preferred Paprika's bizarre, colourful and imaginative concept of a dream world which felt more interesting then Inception's dull in comparison dream world. Considering scenes and concepts with which Inception took for inspiration I'd prefer to see the more unique film that is vastly better.

Paprika Trailer, which shows a very big statement by the New York Times:
